Raised in Houston since the age of one, Dr. Karen Zorrilla is a graduate of Stratford High School who ventured out of state to North Carolina to complete her undergraduate degree at Duke University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1989. From there, she returned to Houston to complete her medical degree and Pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine, where she was honored to serve as one of the Neonatology Chief Residents. She completed her formal medical training in 1996 and has practiced Pediatrics in West Houston since then, taking off a few years while her daughter was in elementary school.

Dr. Zorrilla has been working on a part-time basis at Great Kids Pediatrics since 2009 and is a familiar face at the practice. Dr. Zorrilla has now joined our Great Physician staff as a permanent physician working Wednesday through Friday.  Prior to joining Great Kids Pediatrics full time in 2015, Dr. Zorrilla was a successful medical researcher and patient advocate as the Medical Director of Patient Navigator, a patient advocacy firm. In this role she has researched for patients around the country who have complex medical conditions. At times she has been able to diagnose previously undiagnosed conditions due to her keen interest and dedication to clinical research. As a result she was awarded the Schueler Compass Award in 2014, an award granted to professionals in health and patient advocacy.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending her time with her daughter (when home from college or visiting her there), her parents, and her friends. She also loves traveling, Latin and ballroom dancing, cooking, and playing with her lovable Havanese dogs. She is fluent in English and Spanish.
